The millennials were born in the early 1980s to the mid-1990s and early 200s. The millennials are a generation born in the advent of high technological advancement and globalization. Meanwhile, the baby boomers consist of post-world war, two babies. The group consists of people born between 1946 and 1964 (Becton, Walker and Jones, 2014). The two generations behave differently in the workplace. The purpose of this essay is to determine the different types of leadership styles and appropriate for millennials and baby boomers. Each generation needs a suitable leadership style and approach for the success of the organization. It is critical for the human resource managers to learn and train to be equipped with the different leadership styles. The baby boomers have different characteristics from the millennials. The baby boomers are associated with upholding the traditional values (Pisarski, Polzin and Murakami, 2016). They have a preference for maintaining the societal values. The baby boomers prefer using a designated or standard procedure to achieve a set target. The baby boomers were the first people to genuinely initiated change in the workplace. The behavior of baby boomers in the workplace is respectable and carry themselves with the utmost respect to the managers. The gap between baby boomers and the management is bigger than that of millennials and management (Arvey and Zhang, 2015). The millennials are a lot more aware of the trends and issues in the world. The millennials work towards reducing the gap between management and employees. They need to bridge this gap and make the employees and employers to work together for greater productivity. The millennials attitudes and expectations at the workplace are high. They vision a workplace offering the quality of work life balance. The millennials attitude towards work is thus different from the baby boomers. The millennials are aware of what an ideal workplace should resemble thus the need for managers to offer the needed resources to assist the millennials. They have an expectation of being in a challenging work environment where the tasks they do are not often as repetitive as what baby boomers are used to. The millennials believe in change and technological advancement (Sudheimer, 2009). They expect the leaders in the organizations to offer advanced technological equipment to help in completing the tasks. Unlike the baby boomers who are resistant to change, the millennials believe change is vital, and the organization has to involve them in the process of implementing change. Leadership Styles There are several leadership styles that leaders apply in organizations. Though some leaders use only one, it is important to apply different styles for both millennials and baby boomers. For the purpose of this essay the leadership styles that we will focus on include; transformational, authoritarian, democratic, paternalistic, transactional and Laissez-faire (Hussain and Hassan, 2016). Some of these styles such as democratic leadership style may suit both the millennials and the baby boomers while some of the styles may only suit a distinct group. It is thus up to the managers to identify the best style to use when leading both these groups inside the organization. Effective leadership is key to the accomplishment of organization goals. The leaders thus need to apply the best leadership styles to achieve success. Effective Leadership Styles for Baby Boomers Authoritarian Leadership Style The authoritarian leadership style is associated with dictatorship. The leader dictates organizational policies, processes, and procedures. The leader solely decides on the types of goals to be achieved and coordinates as well as directs all the activities aimed at helping the organization to achieve set goals and targets. In addition to dictating all the activities of the organization, the leader only forms a professional relationship. This leadership style is associated with result-oriented leaders who do not care about the methods used to get to the objectives. The leaders view employees as tools to use to attain their set targets and thus cannot create any form of relationship with the employees. Authoritarian leaders believe in direct supervision that is suitable to the baby boomers. The baby boomers believe in a single leader who is believed to have the required knowledge and expertise. The baby boomers believe that leaders are often right and they should not be questioned. Aut horitarian leadership style would thus suit the baby boomers who are ignorant of weak leadership approaches (Yu-Mi and Yang, 2015). To a baby boomer, planning is not essential as that is the leaders task. An authoritarian leader would thus influence baby boomers, control and coordinate all their efforts effectively towards the achievement of a set goal and objective. Transactional Leadership A transactional leader uses contingent reward and management by exception to influence the activities of their followers (employees) towards the attainment of organizational objectives. These type of leadership focuses on motivating employees by establishing reward and punishment systems (Schrobsdorff, 2015). The contingent rewards are for recognizing the best-performing employees in the organization. The reward system encompasses of factors such as material rewards and psychological rewards. The best performers in an organization are awarded and given incentives to improve even further in their performance. On the other hand, poor performers are punished to improve their individual performances. Transactional leadership tends to aim at direct actions to achieve their set targets. Transactional leadership suits baby boomers in that the leaders will work with the existing structure to achieve the set goals and objectives. These types of leaders are not change oriented and can be compa red to theory X managers (Worth, 2016). This leadership style is mainly focused on maintaining the status quo. Baby boomers fear the unknown and are no risk takers. They are comfortable of repeating the same tasks all their professional life provided they get their pay packages they are very comfortable. Transactional leaders thrive by making employees fear them; hence, the employees have easily bossed around for the company to make profits in the end. Paternalistic Leadership Style In this leadership style, a single individual (leader) influences the activities of every employee in the company just like a parent does to the child. The leader thrives through gaining the complete trust and loyalty of the employees. The leader brainwashes the employees by supplying complete concern for his workers to gain their trust and loyalty. In this leadership style, no member of the group is allowed to work independently without the knowledge or consent of the leader. The leader strives to establish a solid relationship with the employees to be able to influence their activities and thoughts. The behavior of employees in such a firm is uniform with every distinct issue passing through the leader. This type of leadership is suitable to the baby boomers who do not need control over their tasks. The leader represents a fatherly figure to all the employees (Di Gennaro et al., 2016). Baby boomers are not very inventive and do not seek the power to have control over their assigned tasks. Also, baby boomers thrive in close or strict supervision thus have no issues with a dominant leader. The paternalistic leadership style is efficient in firms that have a more formal plus hierarchical organization structure where innovation and creativity of the employees are not required. Effective Leadership Styles for Millennials Transformational Leadership Transformational leaders are a source of inspiration to their employees thus the suitability of the leadership style to the millennials. Transformational leadership style is the complete opposite of transactional leadership. The leaders are not limited by the perception of their followers. Transformational leaders initiate and support a positive change of the organizational processes, policies, and procedures. Under this type of leadership, an employee has the flexibility and the necessary incentives for a good performance. A transformational leader is charismatic (Zehir et al., 2014). The leader has a self-promoting personality that encourages the right behavior amongst employees to become innovative. The leader has a great energy level that is transformed to the employees who are encouraged and motivated to perform better. Transformational leadership style is closely associated with risk taking. A good and efficient leader have to be a risk-taker, someone who thinks out of the box and is ready to step out of the comfort zone to ensure the growth of the company. One important behavior of millennials is the need to take risks and become innovative. A transformational leader influences the behavior of millennials positively, creating a positive atmosphere in the workplace and giving employees job control (Bodenhausen and Curtis, 2016). Employees are influenced to be great team members and support each other positively. The organization moves forward as a single unit with each employee involved at every critical stage aimed towards achieving a set goal and target. Laissez-Faire Leadership Style Initiated in the year 1939, the laissez-faire leadership style is employee oriented. In this leadership style, the staff is given the power to make decisions in the organization concerning their work. The employee is not supervised or often influenced by the actions of their leaders when it comes to their tasks. This leadership style is particularly useful in companies that have extremely talented and ethical professionals. Such employees would know how to handle their respective tasks with a common aim of achieving the set objectives. In laissez-faire leadership, the management has total trust in the judgments of the employees. Though the employees are guaranteed freedom when it concerns their work, they can always seek assistance whenever they want. The millennials would thrive in such an environment (Gavatorta, 2012). Such an environment encourages innovative behavior and high team spirit levels. The belief that management shows to the employees creates a good environment for crea tivity. The employees have a good rapport with the management who their task is to provide regular feedback to their employees. This leadership style brings out the best out of the employees. One big advantage associated with this leadership style is the ability to positively contribute to the quality of work life of the employees. The millennials are particularly critical of work life balance; thus this leadership style suits them (Chuan et al., 2015). Leadership Style Effective for Both Millennials and Baby-Boomers Democratic Leadership Style Democratic leadership style constitutes of the leadership of the people, by the people and for the people. The leadership style is mainly used by leaders who love to share decision-making abilities. This particular style is suitable for both baby boomers and millennials. Though the two generations have notable differences between them, the democratic leadership style would suit them both. Though it would suit both the generations, it is more effective to the millennials than the baby boomers. The baby boomers would have the opportunity to make family choices that are beneficial to all of them. The baby boomers prefer moving together in a single unit, and democratic leadership style would strengthen the cohesion of the team (Patterson, 2007). Meanwhile, millennials would enjoy the leadership style more. Millennials prefer to be involved in the decision-making process especially when it concerns their tasks. For millennials democracy is very critical in change implementation; thus a de mocratic leadership style suits the generation Y more than baby boomers. Democratic leaders are intelligent and have the ability to make better decisions for all stakeholders involved with the business. Conclusion In conclusion, the millennials and baby boomers have distinct characteristics, behavior, and attitude at the workplace. It is challenging for managers to efficiently manage these two generations and achieve a set goal for the business. Leaders have to strike the right balance between which leadership styles can bring better results (LaPorte, 2016). Researchers are working day in day out to increase the efficiency of the artificial intelligence in all the fields and have achieved extraordinary consequences. Artificial intelligence has been designed to assist the doctors in reducing the mortality in cases patients awaiting medical assistance from the specialists. The neural network of brain is efficiently imitated by the artificial intelligence resulting in accurate diagnosis of some diseases through the analysis of the diagnostic criteria and spectral information (Fieschi, 2013). Modernising medicine is a web based treasury of medical insight and information. It's a seamless way to decide on the drugs that need to prescribe by the doctor (Bennett Hauser, 2013). The database is huge and includes all the medical details of patients and the treatment they went through prescribed by the doctors. These are homegrown systems in which a medical college of university stores up their data and through the artificial intelligence derives the assistance in the form of suggestions regarding medicines and the treatment that the patient should undergo. This is a revolutionary technology for the doctors as it reduces the diagnosis time and the time required for the doctor to come up with the drug to be prescribed. Through the naked eyes the benefits artificial intelligence provides looks tantalising but through the lens of ethics and morality it become compelling to draw the line between recommending a suggestion to the doctor and making a decision on its own without the final call of the doctor has to be drawn. The benefits cited above are path breaking and deserves appreciation but the implementation of the technology during an operation or surgery without the presence of a doctor still sounds dangerous and risky. Several factors might hinder the efficient performance of the artificial intelligence. The major issue is that the medical databases are not centralised that means if special case arises which might have happened in one part of the world might not have been passed on to the other part of the world. The database has been continuously updated. The lack of the centralised system would hinder the accurate diagnosis and remedy for the special cases (Cohen Feigenbaum, 2014). However, a doctor with his better judgment might have held the treatment and ask for assistance from fellow or senior doctors and come to conclusion. The artificial intelligence might have become intelligent but they still lack the human emotions that highly guide the thought process and instincts of the doctor. The major aspect that surpasses the benefits of the artificial intelligence is the reliability on the dependency on technology that lacks the compassion and subtle sensitiveness that a living doctor would possess while tending a patient that affect the confidence of the patient. What if the technology fails to operate due to technical error: what if the system crashes and consequently the robot create an incision on the wrong side of the body: what if the database falls short and suggests a wrong medicine for the patient. These question needs to address while dealing with the artificial intelligence as no matter how intelligent the technology has become artificially it has not surpassed the natural human intelligence. Cloning Humans Cloning humans has recently become a possibility that seems much more feasible in today's society than it was twenty years ago. It is a method that involves the production of a group of identical cells or organisms that all derive from a single individual (Grolier 220). It is not known when or how cloning humans really became a possibility, but it is known that there are two possible ways that we can clone humans. The first way involves splitting an embryo into several halves and creating many new individuals from that embryo. The second method of cloning a human involves taking cells from an already existing human being and cloning them, in turn creating other individuals that are identical to that particular person. With these two methods almost at our fingertips, we must ask ourselves two very important questions: Can we do this, and should we? There is no doubt that many problems involving the technological and ethical sides of this issue will arise and will be virtually impossible to avoid, but the overall idea of cloning humans is one that we should accept as a possible reality for the future. Cloning presents as much a moral problem as a technical problem. Cloning is an affront to religious sensibilities; it seems like "playing God," and interfering with the natural process. There are, of course, more logical objections, regarding susceptibility to disease, expense, and diversity. Others are worried about the abuses of cloning. Cloning appears to be a powerful force that can be exploited to produce horrendous results. Cloning may reduce genetic variability, Producing many clones runs the risk of creating a population that is entirely the same. This population would be susceptible to the same diseases, and one disease could devastate the entire population. One can easily picture humans being wiped out be a single virus, however, less drastic, but more probable events could occur from a lack of genetic diversity. For example, if a large percentage of an nation's cattle are identical clones, a virus, such as a particular strain of mad cow disease, could effect the entire population. The result could be catastrophic food shortages in that nation. Cloning may cause people to settle for the best existing animals, not allowing for improvement of the species. In this way, cloning could potentially interfere with natural evolution. Cloning is currently an expensive process. Cloning requires large amounts of money and biological expertise. However, even this technique has 2-3% success rate. There is a risk of disease transfer between transgenic animals and the animal from which the transgenes were derived. The high level of interest among employers, consultants, and the media has generated a healthy business in conferences, websites and guides. It is a growth area in academia too, encompassing diverse disciplines including economics, social policy, feminism, sociology, industrial relations, human resource management, health and psychology. The term Work life balance can be defined as â€Å"employment based on emergent new values, which doesnt discriminate against those with caring or other non-work responsibilities, and which provides an opportunity for people to realize their full potential in work and non work domains† (Lewis, 1996). 1.1 Background of the study Todays life environment has put a great demand on employees time to deliver work and non-work responsibilities. This is a central cause of occupational stress and work-life conflict, which has become a costly problem at both the organizational and individual levels. It might take the form of absenteeism, high staff turnover, lost productive value, increased recruitment and selection costs and medical expenses (Arnold, 2005).    According to a recent study by Georgetown University, employee stress from trying to find time for their children correlates with decreased productivity and increased absenteeism. The study found that unplanned absences were costing some businesses nearly $1 million a year (Georgetown University, 2010). In addition to the financial losses associated with this conflict that are clearly documented, the indirect effects of unsympathetic working conditions can include a decrease in motivation, job satisfaction, trust, job commitment, and other important factors that decrease firm profitability (McHugh, 1997). Therefore, despite the fact that many companies neglecting employee needs, conscious HR specialists are trying in many attempts to overcome these problems by introducing new working strategies that satisfy employees and help them to attain certain balance between work and life. This flexibility enhances employees ability to adjust the time or submit the work as completed. Some companies may offer these options to retain female employees who might consider leaving their jobs after having children. Flexitime is an arrangement where an employee is able to choose when to start and finish work within a specified period of core hours. However, the literature on flexible working arrangements covering a wide range of policies, declared that only some of which might be deemed to support a work-life balance. Moreover, while there is a discussion about the business case for flexible polices and the potential problems it may create for employers, the assumption is often that these policies are invariably beneficial for employees. This is also reflected in the recommendations of the National Framework Committee for Work-life balance policies in Ireland (Helen et al, 2009). Some flexible working arrangements may actually exacerbate work-life conflict, for example, flexibility in the timing of work may result in employees being asked to work unsocial hours. Thus, it is very important to consider the effects of such practices as experienced by employees. Indeed there is very little research on the impact of flexible working hour on workers ability to balance work and other demands, despite this being a major rationale for such practices (Helen et al, 2009). As many Bahraini organizations nowadays are moving toward flexibility, it would be a significant effort to conduct a study that assesses the determination of such practice. Especially that International evidence on the incidence of flexible working arrangements is limited and tends to come from national surveys which, because they are not harmonized, may not be directly comparable. Another factor that boosts the need to this study is the difference in the demography, culture and peoples life style between Western countries and Bahrain. While the incidence of flexible working hours (flextime) is important information in itself, the key questions for this research is: Does it facilitate work-life reconciliation and does it help to improve employees productivity? Other sub-questions might also arise such as: Is there a difference between males and females, or those who have children among those who do not regarding work-life balance? Does employee prefer to manage his/her time or like to be committed to a specified timing because he/she may not be able to manage time? On this basis, this research brings together material from diverse sources to provide an overview of recent research, current thinking and future debates on the significance of flextime and work-life balance, especially to evaluate constructive practices for employee in Bahrain. 1.3 objectives of the study The objective of this study is to put emphasis on the importance of work-life balance for Bahraini employees, and to evaluate its effect on both individual and organizational levels. However there is a very little research on the impact of flexible working on work-life balance (Helen et al, 2009). Moreover, it was recommended by some researchers to examine the relationship between specific types of flexible working practices like the flextime and productivity. For the practical contribution, this study is expected to make contribution to Bahraini private and public organizations as it reveals employees preferences on the subject of flexible working time, in addition to exploring the benefits that flextime provides for employers and employees, thus aiding management decision upon adopting such working option. Another feature which grants strength to this study is that the study spots the light on both, the importance of work-life balance and its implications on the organizational and individual levels in the first place, besides exploring the existence of a relationship between flextime and the work-life balance as recommended in previous literatures. 1.5 limitations of the study The greatest limitation to this study is the non-probability sampling technique used; hence the results cannot be generalized on the whole population. Another limitation is that the study was entirely based on self-reported data. Although this is the best way to assess the work-life balance of an employee as it requires some privacy, this method has been criticized that the respondents may give socially desirable answers and bias results (Sackett, Burris, and Callahan 1989). However, anonymity and confidentiality assurance might be the key to make respondents more truthful. Finally, the questionnaire was developed for employees, thus it reflects employees point of views, while it passes over the management respective. Crucial to an understanding of this story is a solid grasp of its point of view. It is important to recognize that the story is written from an adult perspective. This is revealed in at least two ways: the style and tone or air. The style of writing-its technical construction-is probably the most obvious. From the opening sentence on, the writing leaves no doubt that the author is mature and highly experienced: He uses an exceptional vocabulary, he has a propensity for figurative language, and his sentences are full and well-developed. No child would have written the following sentence, exemplary of the entire story: "The other houses of the street, conscious of decent lives within them, gazed at one another with brown imperturbable faces" (178). That is the work of a polished artist. The tone of the story lends credence to this view. The narrator has matured and put the affair behind him. Looking back, he shakes his head and gently ridicules himself in a nostalgic and sad manner: "her name was like a summons to all my foolish blood" (179); "What innumerable follies laid waste my waking and sleeping thoughts . . . !" (180). In so doing, he disengages himself from the emotions of the infatuation, subtly giving the story a detached air entirely in keeping with the adulthood of the narrator. The boy's are portrayed accurately enough, but little ardor is infused into the narration. Despite its colorful, even picturesque language, it is matter-of-fact.

Background: This experiment is a classic thermodynamics lab. In it, we attempt to measure the enthalpy (? H) of a chemical reaction. The main obstacle is that this is a quantity that cannot be measured directly. It instead is observed as heat from one substance is transferred to another while being monitored with a thermometer. A temperature change in a known substance (such as water) can be related to a certain amount of heat (q). q ? ? mass ? ?T f ? Ti ? ? Specific heat ? Our calorimeter is going to be a set of Styrofoam coffee cups. These cups are well known insulators, and they should keep most heat inside themselves. They are not perfect, however, and they will absorb some of the heat from the process, so we need to determine the calorimeter constant. For any process, the first law of thermodynamics must be followed. ?E ? 0 ? qsystem ? surroundings However, if the calorimeter itself is going to absorb some energy, it must be accounted for as well. ?E ? 0 ? qsystem ? qsurroundings ? qcalorimeter In the first portion of our experiment, a known mass of water with a known temperature will be used to determine how much energy is being absorbed by the calorimeter. Once this is known, the change in enthalpy from the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide can be determined. 2H2O2(aq) ? 2H2O(l) + O2(g) A solution o f hydrogen peroxide will be added to the calorimeter and its temperature will be monitored for a short time. A small amount of iron nitrate will be added to catalyze the reaction and produce a measureable temperature change. This temperature change will be plotted over time. Using this plot, the mass of solution, its specific heat, the calorimeter constant, and the temperature change, we will be able to determine the enthalpy for the reaction. Procedure Week One – Determination of the calorimeter constant Objective – To measure the amount of energy absorbed by the calorimeter while observing a change in temperature. 1. Using a top loading balance, determine the mass of Styrofoam cup and a stir bar. . Place about 100mL of warm deionized water in the cup. Monitor its temperature for 3-4 minutes. Record the temperature every minute. 3. Using a top loading balance, determine the mass of a second Styrofoam cup and a stir bar. 4. Place about 100mL of room temperature water in the cup. Monitor its temperature for 34 minutes. Record the temperature every minute. 5. When the temperatur e of the warm water is about 20? C above the room temperature water, quickly pour it into the room temperature water. Continue monitoring the temperature and recording it every minute. . After several minutes, when the temperature is no longer changing quickly, record the mass of the combined water. 7. Repeat this procedure at least one more time. Week One – Preparation of a standard potassium permanganate solution Objective: To prepare a potassium permanganate solution with a known concentration. This will be used in a second week to standardize a hydrogen peroxide solution. 1. Obtain enough potassium permanganate to make 250. 0mL of a 0. 02M solution. NOTE: Use the analytical balance for this operation. It is NOT necessary to get exactly the amount you calculated. It is only important to be close to this amount, and to record the amount you took accurately. 2. Dissolve this in a small amount of water before diluting it to a final volume of 250. 0mL in a volumetric flask. 3. Transfer this to a clean dry bottle, and store it for use next week. Week Two – Determination of the Concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Objective: Determine the concentration of hydrogen peroxide and use this result to know how many moles are being decomposed. 1. Pipet 2. 0mL of hydrogen peroxide into a small Erlenmeyer flask. Add about 10mL of 4. 0M H2SO4 and 50mL of deionized water. 2. Rinse and fill a buret with the potassium permanganate solution that was prepared last week. 3. Start to titrate the solution. It should stay clear until the end point is reached. The endpoint is the lightest permanent pink color that persists. 4. Repeat so that you have three precise trials. 5. Calculate the concentratio n of the hydrogen peroxide solution. The balanced chemical equation is written below. 2MnO4-(aq) + 5H2O2(aq) + 6H+(aq) ? Mn2+(aq) + 5O2(g) + 8H2O(l) Week Two – Enthalpy of Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide Objective: Use the calorimeter from last week to determine the enthalpy of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. 1. Add 50. 0mL of hydrogen peroxide to the tared Styrofoam cup using a graduated cylinder. 2. Obtain 10. 0mL of 0. 5M iron(III)nitrate in a graduated cylinder. 3. Start recording the temperature of the hydrogen peroxide solution. At the five minute mark, quickly add the iron nitrate, but do not record the temperature. 4. At the six minute mark start recording temperatures again until you reach the 12 minute mark. . Dump out the solution, and repeat if time permits. His friend Manolin has been forced by his parents to leave the old man to fish. Ernest Hemingway has created a character that has made a brave man who personifies courage, honor, and faith. As The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway is a story which studies and shows the themes of an old man’s bravery and endurance, he demonstrates strength in the biggest catch of his career. Santiago, the old man, finds a big marlin on his hook. This will be his biggest catch of his life. There is emotional damage and tension between the battle with the marlin and the old man. Defending catching the fish takes a lot of strength and courage. He deals with suffering and pain by protecting it. When he says he is not defeated, he says â€Å"a man can be destroyed but not defeated. (Spark Notes Editors, 2002) Santiago enjoys the boy very much but Santiago is an outsider. Lions on a beach are a more puzzling symbol than that of Joe DiMaggio. The lions are Santiago’s only dream. The image of lions in his dream reminds him of his connection between birth and his death. The lions playing show that his dream is broken from nature. Santiago’s dream of Joe DiMaggio is an inspiration to him. To him, the baseball player helps him survive. DiMaggio returned to playing baseball to see the eyes of his fans after recovering from a bone projection. Santiago catches some small tuna and thinks it would give him some strength. Soon, he feels a tight pull on his line. The marlin, a great fish, nibbles then final bites. Santiago holds on tight giving everything he’s got until his hands start to cramp up. He is determined to catch the fish as his opponent. When the marlin finally surfaces it is longer than Santiago’s boat. The struggle continues and he finally eats the tuna, wraps the line to his hand and goes to sleep. The next day Santiago harpoons the marlin and wins, but sharks come and eat the flesh of the marlin. So Santiago is not defeated and is not victorious.

Ambiguity in â€Å"A Worn Path† has a significant impact on the story's presentation . The story does not know the trip's purpose until the end, when Phoenix herself remembers. This ambiguity of purpose impacts atmosphere and believability and creates a more direct experience of Phoenix's trip. If the journey's purpose was clear from the start, the story would either feel different or need adjustments in writing. The ambiguity impacts how information is interpreted, the choice of narration, and the expressive result of the work. Several details are given throughout Phoenix's trip without relevance to her destination. Every detail stands out because it is not known why Phoenix is traveling. This can lead to premature conclusions about Phoenix's goal. For example, she has concerns about her dress being torn, she has need to go under a barbed wire fence, and after the fence she sees â€Å"Big dead trees, like black men with one arm, were standing in the purple stalks of the withered cotton field† (1286). These details could lead to speculation that Phoenix is in the antebellum South, and is trying to return to the plantation hastily and subtly. A torn dress may reveal her night activities and the fence may be around the plantation itself. The image of one-armed black men standing in cotton fields invokes the antebellum South because of the association of cotton fields with slavery and the potential of amputation as a sort of punishment. It is not immediately known whether these images are related to Ph oenix's past, present, or neither. The story came out in 1941, so if she is around 90 and the story takes places in 1941, she could reasonably have memories of slavery. However, the fact that when she encounters a white man she is not questio... ...that her forgetfulness caused his death, either with the lye incident itself or afterwards. This is ambiguous, which emphasizes Phoenix's language and her personality instead of plot. The effect of her descriptions of him has more impact on the understanding of Phoenix and her relation with the world than on plot and closure. The ambiguity in â€Å"A Worn Path† impacts the story in several ways. It changes how the details are approached, discarding expectations. It helps the story become more immersive. It shifts the emphasis of the story from plot to the trip itself, Phoenix's personality, and the environment. It probably impacted decisions regarding the narrator. It emphasizes Phoenix's state and casts doubt on the grandson's status. Ultimately, the ambiguity in â€Å"A Worn Path† impacts how it is read, the expressive impact of the story, and the technical aspects of it.

Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary The characters Charles and Emma of Gustave Flaubert’s novel, Madame Bovary, escape from the drudgery and monotony of their life through fantasy. For Emma, it is a direct manipulation of her world, while for Charles it is disillusionment with the world. Each of these characters lives in complete ignorance of the true personality of the other. Emma ignores Charles's simple love and devotion while Charles is oblivious of Emma's affairs. Even before she meets her husband, Charles Bovary, Emma escapes from her dull and monotonous country life by reading stacks of books and magazines, as well as occupying herself with the conventions of religion. She becomes engrossed in the romanticism of religion – the radiant candles, the cool holy water, blue bordered religious pictures – even going so far as to make up sins for confession. By the time Charles Bovary enters the drama that is Emma’s life, she has all but convinced herself that she has no more to experience. This is, again, an over dramatization of her life. Charles Bovary, a kind but unremarkable country doctor, is married to the overbearing and shrewish Heloise when he meets Emma for the first time. He is struck by Emma’s beauty and dismisses the signs of potential disaster: her quick changes of mood from guileless joy to profound boredom and her wandering thoughts. Charles is "never able to imagine her any differently from the way she had been the first time he saw her" (Flaubert 30), a thought that carries through the novel even when Emma is at her worst. On their wedding day, Emma comments that she "would have preferred to be married at midnight, by torchlight..." (Flaubert 22), a sentiment that illustrates the depth of her imprac... ...e so obviously evident. Both Emma and Charles are too wrapped up in their own delusions to realize that their lives are falling apart. Emma’s death, however, only serves to deepen his skewed perception of her: The sweetness of her touch brought his grief to a climax; he felt his whole being collapse in despair at the thought of having to lose her just when she was confessing more love for him than ever before. (Flaubert 275) In the end, it is Emma who finally realizes that Charles loves her and that her affairs were perhaps unjustified, while Charles spends the remainder of his days carrying false memories of his beloved wife, Emma. Human Services help provide essential resources for those in need. Dedication by advocates and human services workers help assist a wide range of social needs. Areas of focus are mental/physical control, self-sufficiency, and rehabilitation. The professionals that make up the human services industry are unique, their passionate about helping others. When working with clients it’s important to gain trust and relationship building is a must. Familiarity will help produce everlasting bonds and increase overall client progression. I am passionate about raising the awareness and help prevent the revolving door of men going in and out of prison. The picture is very predictable as it is distressing about the revolving door of men going to prison. Once these men leave prison they come home with few new positive or marketable skills and more bad habits than they had before they went to prison. They have little supervision, which will show encouragement to these men that someone will hold them accountable to make sure they are during what they are suppose to be doing. These men have a hard time finding gainful employment that they can take care of themselves. As a result, they fall back into the same behaviors that sent them to prison in the first place. Rather we believe this or not, the prison system is not to rehabilitate people, it is there to punish people for braking laws. All of this leads to high rates of recidivism and a virtual revolving door, with people going back into prison almost as fast as they leave it. Be able to be a good advocate you have to be able informed those who don’t really know what it is you stand for. As an advocate about the resolving doors of prison I have to be able to present facts about why this happening to these men and what it is I can do to help slow down this ongoing crisis. For example, it is a known fact that every year that over 50% of every person that is release from prison will either catch a new case or return back to prison in Missouri. The reason this is happening at a rapid rate here in Missouri is because there is not a lot of programs on the state level to help those who are being release to help with job opportunities, educational programs besides retaining a GED if you don’t have one, but after that a person has to make a decision on their own if they wish to further their education. So as an advocate of stopping the resolving doors, I will give the facts to those individuals that their chances of just making it on GED are slim to none. An advocate has to be proactive in what they believe in to get the results that will help those who they believe in.

Each poem tells a story with the speaker being the author. She speaks directly to the audience. Although the number of lines differ, the appearance and length of each line and the appearance of each poem as a whole is very similar. The tones are similar, since both are reflective and somewhat pensive. The language and diction in both poems are simple and understandable. The authors interest is telling her story, and that is evident. Sharon Olds poem, 35/10 is a narrative poem about a mothers realization that she is aging as her daughter is blooming. The mother is the speaker, which is also the author, and she speaks directly to the audience. The tone is admiring, maternal, pensive, reflective, and nostalgic. It is structured as an 18 line poem, each line being of almost equal length. The fact of there being 18 lines may symbolize youth, as the age 18 is the prime of ones youth. The movement of the poem is very fluid. Its chronological flow takes the audience from the beginning when the mother notices her daughter, to where she wonders why they bloom as mothers begin to wilt, to finally understanding that it is to replace the mother. The title simply represents the ages, the mother being 35 and the daughter being 10. The diction helps emphasize the difference between the mother and daughter. Words such as gray, silver, dry pitting, and dud represents the mother, while silken, flower, full, and round represent the daughter. There is imagery that helps the audience see the difference as well as the mother in the mirror. For example, in lines 9-10, she opens like a small pale flower on the tip of a cactus, or last chances to bear a child are falling through my body, the duds among them. This deepens the contrast. Linda Pastans poem, Ethics is a narrative poem as well. The author, who is the speaker, tells the audience a story of her lesson of ethics. As a young woman, she had an Ethics class, but in the end the lesson the teacher attempted to teach, was only learned by the authors own experience. The tone is reflective, pensive and appreciative. The poem consists of 25 almost equal lines. The poem moves fluidly as the author herself changes from the beginning to the end. It develops from her memory of the class, to years later in a museum where she remembers her discussion of the class years before. It chronologically tells the audience that she goes from not knowing what to do, to understanding the real answer. The title Ethics shows that she didnt understand the true meaning of the word from her class, but through age, wisdom, and experience. The diction consists of simple words that flow. The imagery is in the description of the painting in the museum, she states, The colors within the frame are darker than autumn, darker even than winter - the browns of the earth, though earths most radiant elements burn through the canvas which allows the audience to envision the painting with her. In conclusion, the two poems differ in the way the story is being told, but are similar in many other ways. Both poems tell a story of coming of age, but in different fashions. The structures, the diction, the tones, and even the movement are alike. Both are narrative poems with the speaker being the authors.
